Every year the Goodreads Choice Awards come out.
And every year they're absolutely wrong.
BUT I still think it's really fun to see which titles are selected, vote, kvetch (complain), and reflect on the most popular books that came out that year.
I know barely anything about what's hot in the Mystery/Thriller circles, or Historical Fiction, or Contemporary, but I do at least feel like I have a general understanding of Fantasy and Romantasy hits.
Some of these are bestselling authors, or books in a series that have been on the list before. Largely I think that ratings and people putting it on their GR shelves are the main contributing factors. But, more or less, these are my top 14 predictions!
Things I know to be true about the Goodreads Choice selection process that will factor in to my picks:
Each nominee must have at least a 3.5 average rating
An invisible, unknown body of Goodreads electors (likely employees) looks at the genre tags, number of ratings/reviews, and number of people who have the book marked as Want to Read.
Assumptions I'm making:
Goodreads will repeat the 2023 new category of Romantasy so there should not be crossover with the Fantasy list.
